Endorsements Needed from GA-based Organizations by September 20th (Wednesday) for the Federal Horse Slaughter Bill, the SAFE Act!

The GA Pet Coalition invites leaders of GA-based organizations to join us in endorsing the federal SAFE Act (Save America’s Forgotten Equines Act, H.R. 3475, S. 2037) and requesting it be passed as an amendment to the Farm Bill.  The SAFE Act has bipartisan sponsorship and would prohibit horse slaughter plants from reopening in the U.S. and close the loophole that permits American horses to be transported to Mexico and Canada to be slaughtered for human consumption.  Approximately 20,000 American horses were shipped to slaughter in 2022; both transport and slaughter are inhumane and barbaric.  It’s time to bring the number to zero!

The list of endorsements will be forwarded to U.S. Representative David Scott (Georgia 13th Congressional District) who is a Ranking Member of the House Committee on Agriculture.

Fact Sheet on The SAFE Act:

Excerpt:

“No one disputes that there are some homeless horses, just as there are homeless dogs and cats.  The real problem is that the horse slaughter crowd treats homelessness as an economic opportunity rather than a moral responsibility.  If it’s wrong to slaughter American horses for human consumption in the United States, it’s wrong to slaughter American horses in Canada or Mexico.”
