A Special Thank You to Lisa Milot

The GA Pet Coalition extends a very SPECIAL THANK YOU to Professor Lisa Milot for her numerous contributions over the years to advancing animal protection policies in Georgia.

Lisa recently accepted the position of Director of Animal Welfare for the state of Vermont and will be leaving us soon. In particular, the GPC is deeply appreciative of our collaboration with Lisa to curtail the transient, outdoor sales of litters produced by reckless backyard breeders.

She drafted the ordinance language for GPC that has resulted in the passage of 11 local ordinances since 2022. More importantly, Lisa drafted the language for HB 331 which overwhelmingly passed the GA State Senate and House in 2025 and is awaiting the Governor’s signature!

Lisa also testified in a Senate hearing this past legislative session for GPC’s other successful bill, SB 20, which provides educational loan repayment for DVMs practicing shelter medicine and pet sterilization.

Lisa’s accomplishments are extensive, and her departure is a great loss for Georgia; however, she leaves behind a free and valuable training tool – a series of videos providing solutions to pet overproduction and the sheltering crisis (https://www.youtube.com/@UGALawPAWS/videos).

You will be greatly missed, Lisa!!!
