MORE PAWSITIVE PROGRESS!

This week the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners unanimously passed an ordinance to establish Georgia's FIRST local litter registry for unlicensed breeders.

The free registry serves two purposes: (1) identifies pet owners in need of low cost spay/neuter and vet care and (2) provides a means of tracking backyard breeders in violation of the GDA licensing regulations.

The GDA licensing exemption for breeding one litter/12 months is unenforceable without tracking. Both purposes help to reduce shelter overcrowding, saving taxpayer and charitable dollars.

SPECIAL THANKS to District 2 Commissioner Michelle Long Spears and CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson for spearheading the initiative!
