Please join the GA Pet Coalition in expressing our deep appreciation to State Senator Kay Kirkpatrick and State Representative Sharon Cooper for their successful sponsorship of two important animal-related bills, SB 20 and HB 177, respectively. SB 20 provides educational loan repayment of $75k for veterinarians who practice in shelter medicine or nonprofit pet sterilization for three years. HB 177 provides for the inclusion of pets in protective orders for domestic violence and dating violence.

Because of their compassionate thought leadership, more Georgia pets will have timely access to affordable spay/neuter services and be better protected in domestic violence situations.

Because of your compassionate thought leadership, more Georgia pets will have timely access to affordable spay/neuter services and be better protected in domestic violence situations.

Both measures are part of a multi-prong approach needed to elevate animal protection in Georgia. SB 20 will help to reverse Georgia’s dire shelter statistics (e.g., 33,000 dogs and cats did not have live outcomes in 2024) and HB 177 will reduce animal abuse associated with domestic violence.
